  • In Home Tuning and Repairs

Call the most convenient telephone number on our home page for tuning price quotes, to set an appointment to tune your piano, or to have general questions answered concerning your instrument.

We do our best to accommodate our customer's schedules, so if necessary we can set tuning appointments after normal business hours at no extra cost.

Many common problems such as sticking keys, sluggish keys, or notes that simply don't play can be repaired in the customer's home at the time of tuning. Common action problems that can be solved relatively quickly are included in the tuning price. However, there are hundreds of possible reasons for these problems and only an inspection of the instrument will determine the course of action needed to solve the problems. If the repair procedure involves removal of the piano action or multiple notes, there is an extra charge.

    Piano Moving

Call the most convenient number on our home page for piano moving quotes. We have set prices depending on the type and size of the instrument, plus a per mileage charge.

  • Instruments are insured up to $40,000 dollars each. They are moved in an enclosed trailer designed to transport pianos.
  • We routinely move pianos to and from the Dallas to Oklahoma City areas.
  • We are glad to place our customers in contact with cross-country piano moving companies for moves outside of the southern United States area.
  • Moving prices do not include tuning.
  • Refinishing/Restoration

Contact us by telephone for general pricing quotes regarding this type of work. We can discuss the current general condition of your piano and your expectations and future plans for the instrument. With this information we can give you a "ball park" figure as to what to expect in regard to restoration costs. After this free consultation, should the customer desire a firm price an appointment will be scheduled to have a technician examine the piano. This estimate costs $65.00. The customer is mailed a written evaluation of the instrument, along with an estimate as to the cost of the restoration. If the work is scheduled within 60 days of the date of the estimate, the cost of the estimate is subtracted from the cost of the work.

    Storage

Climate controlled storage is available at the rate of $55.00 per month. The first and last months rent is due when the piano arrives at our shop. Cartage to and from the shop is not included in the rental price.

The customer is advised to check their homeowners insurance policy to see if their instrument is covered while in storage. If not, coverage may be provided through Texoma Piano Service & Sales at an extra charge.

    Pianos for Sale

Used pianos are warranted for one-year parts and labor. Delivery in the Durant, Sherman/Denison area is included in the sale price. Pianos are tuned in our shop the day of delivery and a "brush up" tuning of unisons is provided at no extra cost once the instrument is set in the home.

    About Us

Al Williams is the piano tuner/technician and owner of Texoma Piano Service & Sales. Al was born and raised in Pasadena, Texas, a suburb of Houston. After high school Al attended and graduated from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. Wherever Al has lived, music has been an important part of his life and economic well-being. He has played piano and fiddle with groups throughout Texas and southern Oklahoma including Mickey Gilley's nightclub in Pasadena, Texas, Arnold's Club in Colbert, Oklahoma, and 100s of VFWs and dives in-between.

In the late 70's Al became aware of piano tuning as a profession and moved to Denison, Texas for his formal training. After completing the one year, 40 hour per week program, Al was hired by Olan Atherton as piano tuner for Atherton Music in Sherman, Texas. Olan, a fine musician/ piano tuner and member of long standing in the Piano Technicians Guild, encouraged Al to join the Piano Technicians Guild and study to become an RPT (Registered Piano Technician). This designation is achieved by passing rigorous testing in the areas of tuning theory, tuning, and repairs, all of which Al achieved. Al is still a member in good standing of the Dallas Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild. Al continued working and improving his tuning skills under Olan Atherton's tutelage until the sale of the store in the mid 90's.

At this time Al began his own tuning business, Texoma Piano Service & Sales. As business increased shop space became a problem, so in 1999 the business was moved from Woods Street in Sherman to a 1500 square foot facility in Cartwright, Oklahoma, just across the Denison Dam.

In the shop, our day-to-day type work consists mainly of high end piano refinishing, grand action rebuilding and regulation, and belly work. (Restringing, pinblock repair or replacement, soundboard refurbishing and repair etc.) Should your piano require more extensive work, such as a completely new soundboard and bridges, we can direct you to specialists in such work.

Jody, Al's better half, is whom you are likely to speak to on the telephone when making a tuning appointment. She is the office manager, bookkeeper, girl Friday, and sometimes-piano moving helper, much to her dismay. Jody is a Durant Oklahoma native and graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma University.

We understand the busy schedule most families keep these days, so our business hours extend to 9:00 pm. Please feel free to call in the evenings for tuning appointments or questions about your instrument.
